Gender Roles

Shade don't have typical gender roles. They often look at women and men on the same level. Your social status is always determined by the amount of markings a Shade has.

Ranks and Markings

Shade's ranks are determined by the amount of markings they have. Their markings are mostly swirled and often stem from their wings and the bottom of their eyes. Color and peach tone are the most common colors for for the swirled markings that often stem from their back and eyes.

The more markings a Shade as the more respected they are in society, and the more magic they have. The Queen of Shades is completely covered in swirl markings. Most Shade are born with their markings, they are rarely devloped with age or increase in magic--but it has been known to happen.

There is no Shade without markings.

Wings and Tails

Wings are the physical embodiment of Shade's magic. All of them are black and have small claws on them. Tails are the excess amount of magic contained in the Shade's body. Any Shade with a tail is respected automatically. The tail also allows a Shade to store "extra abilities" that normal shade cannot.

Skintones

Skintone is actually an important part of society. Light skin, bordering on white is the common norm for most Shade. Dark skinned shade are rare, and most society automatically "promotes" dark skinned Shade to higher societal positions. Albinism is rare, there are only two known cases in current times.

The Queen (or King)

Currently there is a Queen of Shade. The Shade with the most magical control and most markings is dubbed the ruler of the Shade. S/he makes a variety of political decisions with the help of seven advisors or Knights. There are seldom disputes between of who should be the Queen or King of the time. There was a bloody battle before the current Queen took power. People rarely refer to the King or Queen by their full name.

The Current Queen's full name is: Harmonia Talia Sadee Ulnarious Amia XV

.... hers is painfully long. It's a joke among the Shade.

Lifespan

Shade generally live anywhere form 200-400 years of age. There physical age generally remains between 20-60 years old.

Other Races

The look down on most races, but have a special hate for the Eniiy. Shades are pretty uppity about who they sleep with and tend to carefully choose, but there are plenty of half shade running around. Most of the Shade look upon half shades as being a full shade. Half shade get the same respect and same treatment as full shade depending on their marking and skintone.

Half Humans always have the earth element.

Half Werewolves always have the power of transformation.
